Track 1: Power Systems

Power System depends on three important components, electric transmission, generation and distribution. Electricity is generated at power stations by alternators either by steam or hydro turbine. The generating stations are categorized as thermal, hydro, nuclear etc. The modern day power system are very complicated networks with hundreds of  generating station and load center which are interconnected with each other by the means of power transmission lines. Power Systems are responsible for generating, transmitting and distribution and it plays an important role in our day to day live as the demand of power is increasing day by day.

Track 2: Power Electronics

It is an application for solid state electronics for the control and conversion of electric power. Power Electronics is mainly associated with efficient control and conversion of electric power from its available input into desired electrical output. The Mercury arc valves is regarded as the first high power electronic devices. In modern system semiconductors, switching devices such as diodes, thyristors and transistors are used for the conversion. Being a core in power and energy control, power electronics has found an important place in modern technology.

Renewable energy is a form of energy which is collected from the natural form of resources such as sunlight, geothermal heat, tides, rains, waves etc. Solar energy is one of the most popular and widely used form of renewable energy. Solar water heating for domestic use to the complex technologies of direct conversion of sunlight to electrical energy by using photovoltaic cells.  Wind energy is also a form of renewable energy. The most commonly used non-renewable resources are fossil fuels, petroleum, coal and natural gas. Natural gas is one of the form  non-renewable energy source. By the statistics given by Central Intelligence Agency, the world generates more than 68% of electricity from fossil fuels, and another 9% from nuclear energy.

Track 8: Wireless Communications

Wireless Communication is define as the transfer of information between two or more points which are not connected by means of any electrical conductor. Wireless Communication has various type of application such as fixed, mobile, and portable. In Wireless Communication a source originates a message which could be a voice or a picture or a data which will be converted by a input transducer into an electrical waveform referred to as the baseband signal or message signal. The transmitter is responsible to modify the baseband signal for efficient transmission. The channel is the medium by which a transmitter output is sent, the receiver reprocessed the signal received from the channel and fed it to output transducer which converts the electrical signal to its original form.

Thomson-Houston founded in 1893 by American GE and French Entrepreneurs, dominated the French electrical engineering industry and took a leading position in Spain, Portugal, and Italy, as well as in France’s colonial territories.

Latest Technologies in Electronics and Electrical Engineering

1.Electronic Nose

Electronic nose is a device which is helpful in detecting odors and flavors.Over the last decade, "electronic sensing" or "e-sensing" technologies have undergone important developments from a technical and commercial point of view. The expression "electronic sensing" refers to the capability of reproducing human senses using sensor arrays and pattern recognition systems. Since 1982, research has been conducted to develop technologies, commonly referred to as electronic noses, that could detect and recognize odors and flavors. The stages of the recognition process are similar to human olfaction and are performed for identification, comparison, quantification and other applications, including data storage and retrieval. However, hedonic evaluation is a specificity of the human nose given that it is related to subjective opinions. These devices have undergone much development and are now used to fulfill industrial needs.

2. Thermal copper pillar bump

The thermal copper pillar bump, also known as the "thermal bump", is a thermoelectric device made from thin-film thermoelectric material embedded in flip chip interconnects (in particular copper pillar solder bumps) for use in electronics and optoelectronic packaging, including: flip chip packaging of CPU and GPU integrated circuits (chips), laser diodes, and semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA). Unlike conventional solder bumps that provide an electrical path and a mechanical connection to the package, thermal bumps act as solid-state heat pumps and add thermal management functionality locally on the surface of a chip or to another electrical component. The diameter of a thermal bump is 238 μm and 60 μm high.

The thermal bump uses the thermoelectric effect, which is the direct conversion of temperature differences to electric voltage and vice versa. Simply put, a thermoelectric device creates a voltage when there is a different temperature on each side, or when a voltage is applied to it, it creates a temperature difference. This effect can be used to generate electricity, to measure temperature, to cool objects, or to heat them.

3.Digital Scent Technology

Digital scent technology (or olfactory technology) is the engineering discipline dealing with olfactory representation. It is a technology to sense, transmit and receive scent-enabled digital media (such as web pages, video games, movies and music). This sensing part of this technology works by using olfactometers and electronic noses.

4.Spintronics

Spintronics (a portmanteau meaning spin transport electronics), also known as spinelectronics or fluxtronics, is the study of the intrinsic spin of the electron and its associated magnetic moment, in addition to its fundamental electronic charge, in solid-state devices.Spintronics differs from the older magnetoelectronics, in that spins are manipulated by both magnetic and electrical fields.

5. Flexible Electronics

Flexible electronics also known as flex circuits, is a technology for assembling electronic circuits by mounting electronic devices on flexible plastic substrates, such as polyimide, PEEK or transparent conductive polyester film. Additionally, flex circuits can be screen printed silver circuits on polyester. Flexible electronic assemblies may be manufactured using identical components used for rigid printed circuit boards, allowing the board to conform to a desired shape, or to flex during its use.
